On Tuesday, April 23, our lunch meeting was a double-header featuring tons of great information from the Verona Area High School.
Members of the Verona Area High School (VAHS) Student Council Executive Board shared a little about the role of the Student Council, including:
  • Welcoming Committee for new incoming students
    • Provides all students who are new to VAHS with peers who can help them navigate their new school
  • Host an annual Kids Carnival
    • Young kids get to play games and participate in activities with VAHS students who are showcasing what their team, committee, or group does within the school
In addition to the activities of the Student Council, the Executive Board coordinates the Silver Cord Program. This program, currently in its fourth year, recognizes students who complete a total of 200 hours of volunteering during their junior and senior years (100 hours per school year). Unlike the National Honor Society, the Silver Cord program does not have a GPA requirement.

Kelly Kloepping, the Public Information Officer for the Verona Area School District, also joined our meeting and gave a construction update on the new high school.
